Jaguares Stun Monterrey At Home

Lowly Jaguares pull off a surprising 2-1 victory over Monterrey.

Monterrey picked up their second defeat in a row on Saturday. Monterrey faced a struggling Jaguares who pulled off a 2-1 victory. Monterrey took an early lead just after the 8th minute. Jaguares tied things up later in the first half off a free kick. Monterrey's Diego Ordaz gave the visiting side the victory after putting one into his own net.  

Monterrey now have three defeats in the season with 23 points.

Jaguares picked up only their fourth victory in the Apertura.

First Half  

Jaguares was the hurried team entering the encounter. They needed a win to try and get into the Liguilla, so they started attacking early. Neri Cardozo had the first attempt for Jaguares in the 4th minute. Cardozo received the ball in the outskirts of the box, had a go but his shot was saved by Monterrey goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco.  

Monterrey responded back with a goal in the 8th minute of play. Luis Perez received a great pass from Humberto Suazo inside the box and buried it on the top as Oscar Perez guessed low. Monterrey went ahead early, 1-0.  

Jaguares were trying desperately to get back in to it. Neri Cardozo had a clear chance in the 10th minute but wasted it. Cardozo found himself inside of the box and took a shot but his attempt went well wide of the goal.


Both teams had a chance at burying it in the 20th minute. First it was Monterrey, Aldo De Nigris tried his luck with a header but his attempt went just wide. The Jaguares had an even better chance courtesy of Danilinho. Danilinho was one on one with Orozco but the Brazilian was unable to finish as his effort was saved.  

Jaguares was not dying down and in the 37th minutes they got the goal they were looking for. Alejandro Arguello tried his luck from a free kick and it paid off as the ball went into the net. The game was now tied at one a piece.

The last chance of the half was left to Monterrey. Walter Ayovi received the ball inside of the box and had a look. His shot went wide as the half came to a close.  

Second Half  

Monterrey started the second half on the right foot. Aldo De Nigris beat two defenders before having a shot inside of the box. De Nigris almost nearly made it 2 for Monterrey but his shot crashed against the post.  

Jaguares finally got the break they were looking for in the 59th minute. Diego Ordaz made it into his own net while he tried to cut off a service from Ezequiel Orozco. Jaguares turned the tide and went ahead, 2-1.

Jaguares were looking for more and they almost added to their lead in the 68th minute. Cardozo tried to surprise Orozco with a low driven shot but the keeper was well positioned to make the save.

Jaguares was by far the more dominant limiting the Monterrey offense to just corner kicks.

Humberto Suazo had the last one for Monterrey in the 93rd minute. Suazo received the ball inside of the box off of a corner kick. Suazo had a go but Christina Alvarez saved his team just inches from the line. Jaguares were able to hold on to win, 2-1.
