Morelia crushed Queretaro at home with a 5-0 display. Las Monarcas scored four times in the second half, while Queretaro had to settle for nothing. Luis Gabriel Rey had yet another great day up top, scoring three times to get his hat trick. Queretaro tried valiantly to get back in the game but lost steam in the end.

Morelia gets their third win in a row and sits comfortably with 22 points. Queretaro is yet to win a game since being promoted and is still the worse team in the league.

First Half

Queretaro was on a mission to find the goal early. Los Gallos Blancos were awarded three early corners but could make nothing of them. The visiting team was in dear need of points but Morelia would be the ones to strike first.

Morelia took the lead in the 8th minute thanks to a goal from Luis Gabriel Rey.  Hugo Droguett sent in a nice service into the box, Rey connected with his thigh and beat a sleeping Carlos Bossio. Morelia went ahead despite creating fewer opportunities.

Queretaro tried to get back into the game and they almost succeeded in the 22nd minute. Eduardo Castro tried his luck from long distance but Moises Muñuz could not be caught off guard as he saved the shot with ease.

Queretaro had problems trying to stop Luis Gabriel Rey. The forward had a go inside the box in the 34th minute that just missed the goal. Rey tried again in the 37th minute but the ball once again just goes wide to Queretaro’s fortune.

The half ended with Morelia taking the lead, 1-0.

Second Half

Queretaro was still trying to get even in the second half but their own desperation would coma back to haunt them.

Margarito Manzanares pulled Luis Alonso Sandoval inside of the box in the 54th minute and the referee called an immediate penalty. Luis Gabriel Rey volunteered to take the shot and buried it in the bottom. Morelia took a commanding 2-0 lead.

Manzanares tried to pull one back for Queretaro in the 58th minute. The defender tried his luck from a set kick. The ball went directly at goal but also directly at the gloves of Moises Muñoz, who had no trouble controlling the ball.

Queretaro had another clear play at goal in the 67th minute.  Mauro Gerk beat two Morelia defenders and had a clear shot at goal. Gerk got everything behind his shot but it went straight to the hands of Muñoz.

Things got worse for Queretaro in the 77th minute. Aldo Leao serviced a ball from free kick which found Mauricio Romero. Romero knocked the ball in with his head and gave Morelia a 3-0 lead.

Las Monarcas weren’t done yet and got another just two minutes after scoring their third. Hugo Droguett fired a powerful shot that Bossio could not control. Elias Hernandez found the rebound and tapped it in for Morelia’s 4th.

Queretaro had nothing else to give but did have one more thing to concede. Morelia scored their 5th goal in the 85th minute.

Marvin Cabrera drove the ball down the right side and crossed the ball into the box. Luis Gabriel Rey was closing in and managed to get his head behind it. The ball went into the back of the net as Morelia cruised to a 5-0 victory.

The referee stopped the onslaught in the 90th minute as Morelia won 5-0.
