Jornada 1 of the Mexican Apertura 2009 season is finally in the books.

Atlante's Santiago Solari scored his first-ever Mexican league goal and Rafael Marquez Lugo scored in second-half stoppage time as Atlante beat Queretaro 2-1 in Estadio Corregidora.

Atlante and Queretaro played their match Wedensday that was originally scheduled for late July but moved due to Atlante's participation in a Spanish preseason tournament.

Solari, Atlante's prized offseason acquisition, showed his class early on. In the 32nd minute, Gabriel Pereyra did well to shield a Queretaro defender from the ball, turned and ran towards the left side of the box. Pereyra slipped a ball over to the opposite side of the area and Solari ran onto it. From 25 yards out, Solari smashed a left-footed shot into the back of the net.

The goal was his first since joining Atlante. The former Inter Milan and Real Madrid striker should continue to provide a boost for Atlante.

Queretaro delayed in trying to equalize but eventually nabbed the game-tying goal. Esteban Gonzalez found himself with the ball well outside the box in the 71st minute. Gonzalez lined up a shot and beat Atlante 'keeper Federico Vilar with a 27-yard shot, and Queretaro had the momentum.

However, it was Atlante who ultimately capitalized. In the third minute of stoppage time, Atlante struck for the game-winner. Daniel Arreola dribbled the ball into the penalty area and drew three Queretaro defenders. Arreola slipped the ball to Arturo Muñoz, who immediately slotted the ball inside the six-yard box. Rafael Marquez Lugo knocked a left-footed shot into the goal for the dramatic match-winning goal.
