Atlante received Chivas during the Jornada 5 trying to find their first win of the season. Chivas had never won in Cancun and were hoping to change history. Things started to look well for Chivas who were possessing the ball for greater time, but in the end it was Atlante who came out on top with a 3-1 win.

Chivas had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute. The leading scorer of the team, ‘Chicharo’ Hernandez, tried to send a cross which flashed across the goal, but no one was there to connect and take better advantage of it.

In a quick counterattack in the 19th minute, Chivas quickly arrived at Atlante’s goal. ‘Chicharo’ position himself in front of goal. And with a quick turn sent it into the net, but it was disallowed as ‘Chicharo’ along with two other Chivas players were offsides.

It was then Atlante in the 25th minute who had a chance. Gabriel Pereyra was able to keep on going, and slipped past the Chivas defenders. He crossed and Chivas struggled to get the ball out. It landed to Christian Bermudez, but in the end Luis Michel held it safely away from the Chivas’ goal.

‘Chicharo’ Hernandez came close to scoring for Chivas in the 29th minute. Ramon Morales had sent in a cross, and Hernandez dove for the ball, but was unable to fully connect and sent the ball just wide of goal.

Despite Chivas’ time controlling the ball, it was Atlante who were up on the scoreboard first. Magallon had tried to hold on to the ball after a tackle, but Bermudez quickly took the ball and easily slid the ball past Luis Michel to give Atlante the 1-0 advantage in the 35th minute.

Coming back for the second half it was ‘Chicharo’ who once more had an opportunity. ‘Chicharo’ shook off the Atlante defenders and sent the ball flashing across goal in the 47th minute, but it ended up just bending over the crossbar.

Finally in the 51st minute Chivas were able to equalize with a goal by ‘Chicharo.’ A cross by Xavi Baez on the right met ‘Chicharo’ who’s header was rightfully directed past Federico Vilar to equalize the game for Chivas at 1-1.

Rafael Marquez Lugo didn’t take long to respong on behalf of Atlante. Marquez received a cross on the right from Saul Garcia and rose above Hector Reynoso to score Atlante’s second of the night in the 56th minute.

In the 70th minute Bermudez scored once more. He recived a pass from Pereyra without any marking from the Chivas backline and came up against Luis Michel. Bermudez then sent the ball over the Chivas ‘keeper and gave Atlante a 3-1 lead.

Near the end in the 88th minute, Luis Michel came out right on time to stop an attack by Daniel Arreola after the Atlante player escaped past the Chivas defense on the right.
