America's Ochoa Hopes Streak Can Go On

America got their second consecutive victory on Sunday and Guillermo Ochoa hopes the streak can extend to more.

Guillermo Ochoa made his debut in the Apertura this Sunday against Atlas. The goalkeeper was sidelined with an injury early on and then had international duties to attend to. Ochoa got a win in his debut  and just hopes that the team can build on the positive result.

“It was a very important game because it had been a while since we had won at home. We needed to make it difficult for them at home because wining at home something you need to do.  I hope this is the beginning of a new streak,” Ochoa told Mediotiempo.com.

Last season America carried an impressive winless streak at home. It was just fun to see if it would carry on through the whole season. It didn’t though as Las Aguilas won their final home game against now relegated Necaxa. The stadium barley saw people last season but Sunday was totally different as the fan turn out was great.

Ochoa knows that positive streaks like this will only benefit everyone in America.

“It is very necessary to get positive streaks,” admitted Ochoa. “It’s been a while since we’ve had one and hopefully this is the start of a positive streak for the team.”

America finally played with a full squad on Sunday. Injuries, suspensions, and international duties impeded Las Aguilas to play at full strength for the opening games of the Apertura. On Sunday though the team looked different, it looked better and it looked poised with an attitude that we haven’t seen in a while. Ochoa noted this and said it was a key for their victory.

“We won because we showed attitude. We did not get desperate because we knew that Atlas is a team that manages the time and the ball well and that’s what happened at the start. The minutes passed and the team started to build up confidence, build up our game and we managed the rhythm. I think the second half was all ours,” Ochoa said.

America’s streak will be put at steak away against a surging Cruz Azul next week.
