Aguirre: U.S. Face More Logistical Problems Than Mexico

Javier Aguirre said the United States' slew of foreign-based players will face difficulties in traveling to North America for Wednesday's U.S.-Mexico match.

As further preparation for Mexico’s game against the United States, Javier Aguirre called up several of the Mexican players for an early camp.

Twelve of the 20 were let go by their clubs, while the others will arrive a few days before the game on August 12th. The United States will have to deal with a similar situation as they prepare for the game.

“They’ll have many more problems (the US). The Americans have 14 players in Europe and they’re not going to start training as a complete team, but it’s the same for everyone. Honduras and Costa Rica have to deal with the same thing,” said Aguirre in a press conference.

The manager understood the difficulty of the situation of having to deal with the constricting dates.

“It’s part of our job. FIFA dates are complicated, they only give you three days (to get together) and there’s transatlantic flights. It’s the manager’s job to put together the puzzle.”

Aguirre also acknowledged that the team present at the Gold Cup final on behalf of the United States would not be the same as the one at the Azteca, and that a similar score would be difficult to reproduce.

“None of the Americans that played in the final of the Gold Cup will start in at the Azteca, I’m sure. There’s going to be different players. To repeat the score lines, the bad as well as the good, will be difficult. When you score a lot you relax, and when you’re scored on you’re more attentive.”

A final message for the day was sent out by Aguirre expressing the means of reaching the ending target

“We send this message: we’re going to give all our effort that we need to win. Whatever score gives us a win is good.”
