Rafael Marquez - Barcelona
Rafael Marquez’s absence for Mexico’s World Cup qualifying game against the US in Mexico City on August 12th seems certain. During practice for Barcelona’s game against the Seattle Sounders, Marquez suffered a torn left calf muscle. He is expected to miss between 10 and 15 days.

The Mexican defender suffered a knee injury in the first leg of the Champions League semi final clash between Barcelona and Chelsea, and had surgery. The player was making his way through recovery and managed to play 30 minutes in Barcelona’s game against the LA Galaxy on Sunday.

According to the official club website, Marquez suffered a 2-centimeter tear and is going to miss the rest of Barcelona’s preseason US tour. Besides being out for Mexico’s clash, the defender could also miss Barcelona’s first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on August 16th.
