Tri's Rojas: I Have No Doubt Mexico Is Stronger
Oscar Rojas was left out of the Gold cup roster but is now back with El Tri and more than motivated to do things right.
Rojas knows the match against the U.S. on the 12th will be a high pressure one but not only because they are facing their arch rivals.
"The idea is to win whatever way we can. We can't leave any points behind. We have to win or win. A win would be a great boost for our confidence," Rojas explained to Reforma.
Rojas takes what happened in the Gold cup as a motivator for their next match. Although he was not there he knows what has to be done to start especially with the European based defenders back.
"What happened in the Gold Cup is very motivating," Rojas implied. "I didn't have a chance to be in the Gold Cup but I'm here now so I just have to work twice as hard to make sure we get another victory."
For quite some time now the U.S. has been hailed as the best team in CONCACAF. Recent stats would also help support that theory. Rojas though still feels that Mexico is the giant of Concacaf.
“The United States is not above Mexico," Rojas admitted. "They've grown a lot as they showed in the Confederations Cup but I believe Mexico has more quality and better football. It's just a matter of demonstrating it on the field."
To back up Rojas’ claims, Mexico and the U.S. have played 24 times in World Cup elimination matches. Mexico has won 14 of those matches, tied 5 times, and lost 5 times. In those 24 matches Mexico has outscored the U.S. 63 to 28.
Not to mention that the U.S. has never won in the Azteca. That would legitimize Rojas’ claims.
"Mexico has been superior. The U.S. has had their wins over Mexico but Mexico, for the quality of players we have, I have no doubt is stronger,” implied Rojas.
