Torrado: We Need To Forget What Happened In The Gold Cup
Gerardo Torrado, the captain of Mexico during their Gold Cup run, says El Tri needs to forget about the past and think about what’s to come.
Mexico now faces a similar situation with their World Cup qualifying campaign. Mexico’s fate is uncertain and the game against the U.S. on the 12th could very well determine a lot about El Tri’s fate. Gerardo Torrado, who captained El Tri during the Gold Cup, said that given Mexico’s situation they have to win.
"Given our situation, the most important thing is to win. The ideal thing would be to win, play attractively and to please our supporters but the most important thing right now is to win. If the rest comes to fruition, fine. It would be welcomed,” Torrado said in a press conference.
Mexico’s next opponent is the U.S. on the 12th but both teams will have a different roster than those presented in the Gold Cup. Although Mexico demolished the U.S. in the Gold Cup final, Torrado knows they will be facing a completely different team. They need to forget what happened in the Gold Cup expressed Torrado.
"Every game is different and we need to forget the Gold Cup," Torrado said. "That is over and in the books. This is a new game with different players. Everything that happened in the Gold Cup, we need to forget that."
Aguirre has called upon some European reinforcements but Torrado knows there is a set style of play now and the reinforcements will only help.
"This is a solid group that now has a style of play," Torrado said. "Every player is important and every player can play if called upon."
