Puebla, Estudiantes Yet To Win
Puebla and Estudiantes yet to sum up three points after two Jornadas in the Apertura as the teams finish 1-1 in Estadio Cuauhtemoc on Sunday.
First Half
The first half between these two rivals was divided down the middle. Both had chances and it seemed it would take an error form each others defense in order for any one to get off the mark.
The first real chance of the game came in the 15th minute. Puebla’s Guatemalan reinforcement Carlos “El Pescadito” Ruiz missed a clear chance. Estudiantes keeper Mario Rodriguez had a horrible clearance which landed in front of Ruiz, Ruiz shot and missed wide of the mark.
Estudiantes were getting offensive and Mauro Cejas lead the attack. In the 28th minute his hard work paid off. Cejas took on the Puebla defense from the right side he took a shot and buried past keeper Jorge Villalpando. Estudiantes took the lead and were ahead 1-0.
Mauro Ceja wanted more and in the 31st minute he came close to converting his second goal. Ceja again was not timid of the Puebla defense but his shot went wide this time.
Estudiantes were taking the initiative and kept pressing forward but in doing so they left themselves vulnerable to an attack. In the 34th minute Carlos Ruiz realized that and converted for Puebla. Ruiz was left alone in the box with Rodriguez he positioned himself and got the ball past Rodriguez. The game was now tied at one a piece.
The rest of the half was controlled by Puebla who seemed inspired by Ruiz’ goal and threw more people upfront. Both sides ended square at the half.
Second Half
Puebla had a clear chance to go up early in the half. Juan Carlos Leaño took down Nicolas Olivera inside the box and the referee immediately called the penalty. El Pescadito Ruiz called for the ball he hit it to the right but Rodriguez guessed it and kept his team in the game.
Following his bad miss, Ruiz tried to make up for it in the 60th minute. He drove the ball down the right flank then he cut back, fired and missed wide.
Estudiantes looked to be happy with the tie as they were pinned on their own half trying to keep the Poblanos from scoring. Nicolas Vigneri thought he had a goal in the 73rd minute. His header was about to cross the line but luckily for Estudiantes Daniel Alcantar was there and cleared the ball away.
The game generated very little after that but Puebla were the ones trying to propose. They could not get past the solid Estudiante defense and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
