Toluca's Calderon Nets Pair In Win At Jaguares

Minus several key figures, Toluca pulls out a win in Jaguares nonetheless, winning by a 2-0 score.

Nestor Calderon's 10-minute span of brilliance was enough for Toluca to down Jaguares as the visiting Diablos Rojos improved to two wins in two games.

Toluca played without several players as Antonio Naelson "Zinha" and Francisco Gamboa were sent off in last week's 4-3 win over Chivas, while goalkeeper Hernan Cristante and star forward Hector Raul Mancilla also served suspensions.

First Half

In the 12th minute, Oribe Peralta had an early attempt for Jaguares as he created space for himself inside the penalty area but his shot on goal went straight to goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.

Toluca's first goal was product of a splendid buildup on the left side of the penalty area. In the 35th minute, Raul Nava found Carlos Esquivel down the left side of the box, and Esquivel slipped a ball to the far post. Calderon ran onto the ball and buried it into the back of the net as Jaguares players scrambled to try and cover the far post.

Calderon was not done. Some 10 minutes later, Chrisian Valdez tried to dribble out of the back but Israel Lopez stripped Valdez of the ball. Lopez fed Esquivel, who found Diego De La Torre, who ran into the box and fired a shot on goal. The ball caromed off a defender and went to Calderon, who easily knocked the ball into the open goal.

Second Half

Jaguares tried to get a goal back early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Adolfo Bautista sent a cross into the box off a free kick. Valdez headed it but Talavera did well to dive and parry the ball away inches in front of the goal line.

Talavera made another strong save in the 56th minute when Bautista found the ball on the left side of the box. Bautista ripped a shot but his former Chivas teammate parried the ball away.

Neri Cardozo had a late opportunity but could not find a seam in Toluca's defense.

Jaguares fell to 1-1 while Toluca are now 2-0 and will get their suspended players back for a game against Pumas next week.
