Depleted Toluca Moves Forward
A depleted Toluca could spell success for Jaguares on Saturday who have not beaten their rivals since the Apertura 2006
Gold Cup veterans Carlos Esquivel and Edgar Dueñas were possibilities in Aguirre’s mind for El Tri’s next qualifier match . But while more experienced players received the call for the Aug. 12 match, the "chorizero" though still has hopes of making the team.
“(Aguirre) told us that he will keep observing us. He told us to keep doing a great job in our clubs, we need to keep working hard and hopefully the call will come in,” said Esquivel.
Antonio Naelson Zinha was also reportedly in consideration but was not called in. Zinha along with team mate Francisco Gamboa were both thrown out from last weeks games leaving Toluca with out their usual base squad. Hernan Christante will be serving his second and final suspension and therefore will not be available.
On the positive side, there is a reinforcement that made his way into Mexico this week and could incorporate himself to fill in some gaps.
Vladimir Marin was signed from Paraguayan side Libertad and plays as an offensive midfielder. With Zinha out Marin could fill in but whether they will be able to incorporate him into the team soon enough still remains to be the question.
“He is already here and is doing some medical exams after that we will do the presentation," said de la Torre, who also signaled that Marin possesses excellent ball control and an adequate long range shot.
