America’s Pardo Asks For Ref Re-evaluation

Americas’ last minute tie was the cause of the referee’s bad decisions says Pardo.

Club America almost came away with a victory in their opener for the Apertura. The Mexico City club was just minutes away from victory, but a controversial penalty was called against them which caused them to tie at one goal a piece with San Luis. The tie felt more like a loss to the Aguilas who thought that the penalty was non existent.

Captain Pavel Pardo said he thought the team played well despite not having all their players available for the game.

“It was a close and hard fought game. I thought we played well; we looked towards goal and practically had the game won,” Pardo told Mediotiempo.com

The game was America's for the taking, but a referee decision changed the game entirely in the last minute of play.  There was penalty called in favor of the Gladiators. Tressor Moreno was not going to miss and rescued a point for his team. Pardo believed those types of decisions should really be made a focus in referee commissions.

“Not losing is good, but we had the three points in sight. If a referee makes those kinds of calls then there should be ten thousand penalties (per season) or three penalties per game. I think it's something that needs to be revisited with the people from the referee commission, because there is always shoving or tugging that goes on inside the box,” expressed Pardo.

Although America did not come away with a win, Pardo recognized that the team could build on the match and maintain a positive attitude.

“The intensity that we showed was good,” admitted Pardo. “I think we are wining in some aspects; the functioning of the team is great and I think we should keep our spirits high.”
