After Breakout Showing With Mexico, Sabah Returns To Morelia
Miguel Sabah won the Golden Boot in the Gold Cup and is now primed for some league action.
Despite missing a penalty, Miguel Sabah managed to end the tournament as the highest scorer with four goals, but he credited his prize to the team.
“The goals were a result of the team’s effort. I arrive very happy, motivated, and now I’ll be fine for Sunday where we’ll try to get those three points in Mexico (City) against America,” said Sabah to mediotiempo.com.
Morelia drew against Santos over the weekend, and hope that in their visit to America they can gather more points.
“We have to win. It’s a game where the history of how things are handled is known, but in the end it’s football and we want to win these types of games. We’re going to train hard to get the three points over there.”
In the Clausura 2009, Sabah ended the tournament as the best Mexican striker in the league and while away the Morelia manager praised his striker and mentioned his importance to the team.
“It’s an honor that Tomas (Boy) says that of me. I have to keep working, and show it on the field where it counts. I hope to keep on performing with Monarcas, which is what has taken me to the national team.
Javier Aguirre also called on Sabah for the World Cup qualifying game against the United States, and Sabah had said he would like to be there once again.
“Obviously I want to be there once more like everyone else who participated in the Gold Cup," he said. "The manager has the last say and there’s nothing more to do than work and wait.”
