Guardado Would Welcome Gio To Deportivo
Andres Guardado said the club's recent interest in Giovani Dos Santos is merited since the youngster had a standout performance in the Gold Cup.
One of Dos Santos' Tri teammates said the move would be a positive for both club and player.
“It would be very good if he joined us,” Andres Guardado told reporters after Deportivo La Coruña Coach Miguel Angel Lotina expressed interest in signing Dos Santos.
“He had a very good Gold Cup; he regained his confidence and showed the level of play which is expected of him in Mexico and that he displayed in Barcelona. If he comes that would be great; not so much because he is Mexican but because he is a great player,” continued Guardado. “Obviously he inspires Deportivo to sign him because he is the type of player that can unbalance the opposition’s defense and can be determinant in attack."
Giovani, who is currently playing with English outfit Tottenham Hotspur, is expected to make a switch during the summer. The Mexican striker appears to have regained his form in helping Mexico win the CONCACAF Gold Cup, in which his performance throughout the tournament earned him the Most Valuable Player award.
As for Deportivo’s aspirations in the upcoming La Liga season Guardado seems confident that the club is on the right track.
“We are taking shape little by little, we still need to reduce the squad, and as the preseason continues gain more rhythm in our remaining friendly games; as of now the squad is looking good and I hope that it can be a good year for all of us,” concluded Guardado.
