Maza Injury Blow To Mexico, PSV
Francisco Javier "Maza" Rodriguez is out for six weeks with a muscle tear, an injury that will cost him the chance to play against the U.S. on Aug. 12.
The injury will cost Rodriguez a chance of playing against the United States as well as the start of the Dutch Eredivisie season.
"Unfortunately the medical exams revealed a three-centimeter tear that will leave me out of action for four to six weeks," Rodriguez said in an interview on W Radio.
Rodriguez, who did not play under former Mexico manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, had been a part of Mexico's team for their games against El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago last month.
For PSV, Rodriguez had lined himself up for a starting spot as he had shown well for himself during the preseason.
Still, his absence for Mexico and their Aug. 12 fixture against the U.S. stings.
"It hurts quite a bit, to be honest," Rodriguez said. "I hadn't been back with the national team very long and Javier Aguirre had confidence in me. I participated in both of the previous qualifiers and of course I was very excited and enthused to play against our hated rival, the United States, but more importantly to help turn this thing around. But nobody is completely free of injury and unfortunately it was my turn to get hurt."
