Mexico's Perez Said Aguirre Looks Worried

Oscar Perez, who was brought back from the scrap heap when Javier Aguirre took over the Mexican national team, said his boss looks worried.

Oscar ‘El Conejo’ Perez has long been counted on by Javier Aguirre for the Mexican national team.  The veteran goalkeeper from Jaguares spoke about the negative effects that Aguirre might be experiencing.

“More than pressured he looked worried. Obviously him, as well as you (the media) and us (the players), would all like for the national team to play better, and well, I think that it’s going down that path. The last game (against Guadeloupe) they played better and hopefully, we’ll continue that way,” Perez said to Reforma.

Javier Aguirre has had several disciplinary problems before, and he once again landed in hot water after he kicked out at Panamanian player Ricardo Phillips. Perez said that it was just part of his character.

“We know that Javier (Aguirre) is that way. He gets heated, the excitement gets to him. There was one time an incident in Pachuca against Cruz Azul. He tapped a ball that was about to go out. Just things like that. His character is like that, but I don’t think he did it with bad intentions, it was something unfortunate that happened.”

Now that the punishment has been announced, Perez doesn’t think that there will be a repeat of the incident.

“Javier(Aguirre) does seem a little more tense, but he has been in the industry for plenty of time. So, I don’t think he’ll lose his head any more. I think that he’ll be calm. Obviously he is worried and occupied with what can happen with the national team, and that’s it.”
