New Faces May Integrate Mexican Lineup

Mexico manager Javier Aguirre, though banned for the game, said Mexico would turn to fresh faces for El Tri's group stage finale, on Sunday against Guadeloupe in Arizona.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - As Mexico prepare to take on their next and final rival, Guadeloupe in the group stages of the Gold Cup, Javier Aguirre revealed at a press conference that during their next game there would be new players in the line-up.

Also, he is almost decisive in his decision to keep  Carlos Vela and Guillermo Franco off the pitch while he serves out his three-match ban for kicking Panamanian player Ricardo Phillips.

The Mexican national team has traveled on the West Coast of the United States for their group games, and Aguirre plans to make changes for the upcoming game against Guadeloupe.

“We don’t think in anything but winning the game. Obviously I will look for the best option. (It’s been) three games in eight days. Of course there’s the need for fresh people, and I plan to make some movements; new players to try and win the game and to be first in the group is what interests us,” said Aguirre.

Although Vela was speculated to be available for the game against Guadeloupe, Aguirre plans to let his recovery continue. Guillermo Franco, who joined up with the national team after a spot was freed due to Omar Arellano’s injury, is also being waited upon to increase his level of fitness.

“I had planned for neither to be in this game. They could be. If it were the last game I could put them both on to play. But, I prefer for them to gain physical fitness, in Guillermo (Franco’s) case, and for them to gain health in Carlos (Vela's) case. If everything turns out as we planned we’ll have this week in between the group games and the quarter finals which are six days more or less. (It’ll be) about a week to practice and to be at 100 percent of physical condition. Both at 100 percent to integrate them into the team.”
