Mexico's Aguirre Accepts Suspension

Mexico manager Javier Aguirre accepted his three-match ban and said he needed to pay for his mistake.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Javier Aguirre’s team saw a light practice Saturday evening in Glendale.

Before the Practice though, Aguirre was presented with the news of his suspension. CONCACAF suspended Aguirre for three games and "El Vasco" said he knew it was coming but did not know of the severity.

Aguirre's face was not of surprise but more one of remorse as he seemed to regret his actions.

“I think the punishment is just because you have to consider the magnitude of the event. I will have to go with it because I made a mistake and I need to pay for my mistake. It’s three games and all I can say is that it’s a punishment and it is just," said Aguirre just after finding out the magnitude of his suspension.

Sunday’s game will be the first of the three-match ban but he will have two left meaning he would not be back until the final game. But the way things are going for Mexico his return might not be that quick. If Mexico get knocked out in the quarterfinals, Aguirre would miss the World Cup qualifier against the U.S. on Aug. 12.

First things first though - Mexico will have to pull out a good result against Guadeloupe if they plan to maintain their Gold Cup dreams alive. Aguirre hopes to see more than what he has seen in the past few games.

“I would like to see greater depth and more cohesion,” Aguirre admitted. “We are not generating enough possibilities and we also need to make more goals. Defensively we’ve only received one goal but we have not had many dangers come our way. I hope that (Sunday) we can again do a good job defensively.  Offensively I hope my team has greater security over the ball, more mobility, and greater depth.”

With Aguirre out the reins will be handed over to Mario Carrillo who many believe already has a greater say than Aguirre. Even if it is for three games, Mexico will once again go through yet another coaching change.  Aguirre though confides in Carrillo and said he would do a good job.
