Bravo Maintaining Focus On Guadeloupe, Gold Cup Effort

Despite Javier Aguirre's incident during Thursday's game against Panama and the subsequent fallout, Mexico striker Omar Bravo said his focus is on Guadeloupe.

Mexico manager Javier Aguirre has been the prominent figure emerging from the past game against Panama. However, Aguirre's kick to Panama’s Ricardo Phillips is not being taken as a distraction by the Mexican players.

Omar Bravo claims that he was too far away to properly see the commotion, and is more worried about the upcoming game.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to see the video. I simply observed some pushing, things like that. All of a sudden, us as footballers, it’s a human instinct to get carried away in football,” said Bravo. “It doesn’t fall on me to judge. I’m more worried about the next game and trying to end as leaders of the group to have an advantage.”

Towards the end of the game fans in the stands became rowdy and threw objects at a Panamanian player as he left to be treated for an injury. Bravo offered apologies for the way fans acted.

“Those are things that football has. There are some things that are inevitable," Bravo said. "The actions of the people weren’t ideal, and regarding this (we) ask for forgiveness towards all of the Panamanian team. It’s difficult to generalize among the fans when it’s just a few (causing trouble).”

Bravo believes that the Mexican team can be first in the group, but that they have to play better to convince others.

“All of a sudden we’re not getting what we want. We’re functioning well, but the best isn’t coming out," he said. "Our possibilities are real. We can be group leaders and that’s what’s important, but that goes hand in hand with better football.”
