The Mexican National team is gearing up for their next opponent, Panama, in Houston, Texas. Mexican midfielder Israel “Jagger” Martinez is sure that the team will win the Gold Cup, no matter the style of play.

Recently, the team has come under much criticism regarding the style at play, However, to Martinez the points gained along the way outweighs the style.

“What we ask is for support and patience. The national team is everyone’s, not just ours. The important thing is that we win. Many times you can play well and not win, and that upsets you,” Martinez said to Reforma. “The truth is that I prefer to play badly and win. I think that if you don’t support us, if the people don’t support us and only see the bad, things are going to be complicated.”

“Jagger” admits that things will soon work themselves out on the pitch.

“We hope to be more on the pitch, to better define plays to score, everything will be easier that way.”

Despite the slow start in the tournament, “Jagger” is confident of a positive outcome.

“There’s willingness here. We all know that we have to win the Cup and that’s what we came for. I see it in everyone; from the manager to all of us, I see everyone with that ambition. We’re on a good path to win the Gold Cup.”
