America Finalize Mosquera Deal
The former Pachuca defender officially joined America on Monday after a two-year stint in Spain.
Mosquera, who played a key role in Pachuca's Clausura 06 and 07 championships, said he was looking forward to the move.
"I have a lot of desire to begin this new phase of my career," Mosquera told Mexican daily Reforma.
Mosquera is expected to help bring defensive stability to America, something that could translate to a playoff spot. The last time America were in the playoffs was in the Clausura 2007 season when Mosquera helped los Tuzos beat las Aguilas in a memorable final before leaving for Sevilla. But Mosquera was also a part of Pachuca's Copa Sudamericana 2006 title-winning side as well as the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup-winning Tuzo squad as well.
America faithful have seemingly already placed high expectations on the incoming defender because of his past accomplishments but Mosquera said he will not rely on his previous accomplishments for success now.
"Truth is, you need to show it on the field," he said. "There are a lot of expectations but I need to show why America wanted me and keep growing as a footballer and more so with an institution like America."
