Omar Arellano had to leave the Mexican national team squad that
will compete in the Gold Cup due to a recurring injury in his left
foot. Arellano has had trouble while at Chivas with his fifth
metatarsal, and the injury once again appeared during a game against
Guatemala.
So far, testing has revealed that the injury is not extensive, but precaution will be taken and Arellano will return to Guadalajara.
The player told Esto that a few weeks would have to go by before anything more was determined.
“I was calm because the results indicated that there was nothing, but yesterday there appeared a dot and it’s better to take care. By the look of it, it’s not that bad but we have to wait a few weeks to see if the injury turns out OK. We have to wait so that there’s no relapse. More than anything, it’s a precaution,” said Arellano.
According to the national team doctor, Radames Gaxiola, Arellano will be out for about four weeks putting his participation with Chivas for their Apertura 2009 campaign on hold.
Arellano is no stranger to the injury, as it has previously kept him out of competition.
“I’m sad, but those are football things. I was very eager to represent my country. Being in the national team is the best, it’s an honor. I don’t have anything else to do except to look forward and leave this behind.”
