Mexico's Dueñas: The Scoreline Was Just
Mexico's scoreless draw on Sunday was a proper result, said defender Edgar Dueñas.
Edgar Dueñas was one of the changes that were made for Sunday’s game. Dueñas admitted that he walked away with a bitter sweet taste after the match.
“We did something’s extremely well, but the taste in our mouths is bitter because we could not reflect what we did with the result,” Dueñas told ESPN Deportes.
The Toluca defender pointed out that there are things they could take away from the match, despite not scoring a single goal.
“Unfortunately the result was not one that we wanted. But I think we functioned well and all we failed to do was score, this is won with goals and we couldn’t make them.”
Dueñas also signaled that the 0-0 result was just, despite the Mexicans dominance over the ball.
“It was a tight match, but we knew they would a good game plan. With what little time we had to work, I think we did a lot and its true the ball didn’t go in, but the score line was fair, Dueñas explained.
Like Dueñas, Alberto “El Venado” Medina was also one of the changes that Aguirre brought on. And like Dueñas, Medina justified the team’s performance.
“The absence of forcefulness is obvious but I think we did have our chances but we just couldn’t make the best of them,” said Medina. “The most important thing is the functionality of the team and this game helps us see where we stand for the Gold Cup.”
The forward for Chivas also justified the crowds displease for the team. There was a poor entrance and the crowd that was at hand would boo their team.
“The people want to see goals and there were none, they want a spectacle. It is normal for them to walk away mad,” admitted Medina.
