Torrado Tries To Keep Mexico's Win In Perspective

Mexico won 4-0 over Venezuela on Wednesday but team captain Gerardo Torrado said the friendly victory is not something to get too excited about.

On a day where everything seemed possible, Mexico put on a thrashing to Venezuela. El Tri broke out of the old and into the new and made it look simple like if were just another stroll in the park.

But Tri captain Gerardo Torrado said there should be calmness within this squad for this was only a friendly match.

The match is one of two tune-ups that the Mexicans will be doing before finally playing in the Gold Cup. Wednesday, Venezuela was the victim falling to goals from Giovanni Dos Santos, Carlos Vela and Omar Arellano. Mexico won and in convincing fashion putting to rest the rumors that they can't finish.

"Wining is always good and more so when you convert a lot of goals," Torrado said to a group of reporters. Torrado always said this win was going to be important. He also emphasized that the team was going into these games and the Gold Cup tournament, with the priority being to get better and work as whole under Aguirre's system.

"We have to stay calm, we cant go around ringing bells because of this one victory," expressed Torrado. "We need to keep working hard to preparing ourselves to have a great Gold Cup."

Being one of the most experienced members out there tonight, Torrado, was awarded the captain's armband by Aguirre.


"It's part of the confidence that Javier has in me. I think were all important and we all have to be one to play at maximum level," Torrado admitted.

Mexico will hope to display a similar outcome against a youthful Guatemala side on Sunday.
