Mexico will play Venezuela on Wednesday in Atlanta but success or failures will be determined in July.

As Mexico prepares for a friendly against Venezuela on Wednesday, the team's focus is on the South Americans. However, their longer-range project is simple: success in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“The objective is clear; to win the Gold Cup,” declared Omar Arellano at the Mexican national team’s press conference as the Tricolor prepares for the regional tournament with two friendly games in the United States.

The Tricolor, which traveled to Atlanta, will be facing Venezuela on Wednesday and then heading to San Diego to play against Guatemala on Sunday as part of preparations for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“We have two friendly games before the Cup and it will be important to get confidence, to win those games and reach the Gold Cup in a good state,” continued the Guadalajara striker. “Our objective has been set and we have to win the Gold Cup and recover our form the good playing style that the national team is missing."

Criticism has rained on the squad's roster, as manager Javier Aguirre chose to take a team stockpiled with youngsters and some veterans mixed in while leaving key players such as Andres Guardado and Carlos Salcido at home.

For defender Johnny Magallon there is only one Mexican national team squad.

“There is no Mexico B team; there is a country named Mexico and the players that are in the squad are here because of their own merits,” explained the Chivas defender. “We are aware that the results have not been favorable, that the squad has not looked good, but the people need to have confidence and be more positive. We are a good group of professionals who are guided by a great coach. We want to ask the fans to confide in us and transmit those good vibes to us."
