Aguirre: Mexico Not In Grave Situation
Mexico manager Javier Aguirre said that El Tri is not quite yet in a desperate situation despite El Tri's 2-1 loss in El Salvador on Saturday.
“It was another game that we lost an opportunity to add points. There is a preoccupation, we are not at a grave situation, but18 points is the magic number that is what the previous qualifiers have stated,” said Aguirre upon his arrival to Mexico. “I was always aware of the teams problems, the qualifying situation, obviously this was not a good result, and our situation is more complicated, but we still have time, we have games that can help us.”
Aguirre pointed to the team's defensive miscues as a place to start improving.
“Let us compose many things, starting with the defensive errors; it is very difficult to win games when you receive two goals," continued el Vasco. "I am occupied so that we win the next four home-games so that we can achieve our qualification on the road. There are still six games to be played; we are not even at the half-way mark yet, the distance is big and the other teams also have to play in the road. In the end we will see how things stand by Oct. 14."
Despite the Tricolor's poor form Aguirre says that the team did enough to have merit a draw as the Salvadorians were not overly superior.
“I get the impression that we lacked a bit of fortune, from what I saw on the field the score was unjust, there were few scoring chances from both sides, I don’t think El Salvador put more effort than us. The just result would have been a draw,” expressed Aguirre.
“The team is very bad because without having a brilliant game, El Salvador was not superior. The first goal was a fatal mistake and el Conejo only had a few dangerous balls. Perhaps, it would have been easier to sit back; instead we played open in an unfortunate play they score on us. We have to oblige the players to not have lament and next Wednesday play with our batteries recharged."
