Palencia: This Is The Best Thing That's Happened In My Career
Francisco Palencia has had stints in Spain and MLS, been part of two World Cups and played Chivas and Cruz Azul, but winning the Clausura 2009 title with Pumas is tops in his career.
Juan Francisco Palencia who has played with three of the four superpowers in Mexico said that this was the best thing that’s happened to him since he first stepped on the field with Cruz Azul.
“It just magnifies itself. I lost a championship against Pumas once and you know the magnitude of the fans. But once you win it with them then it’s something special. Being champion with this team is the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my football career,” Palencia admitted.
Palencia was a part of the Mexican team that won the Confederations Cup in 1999, but not even that compared to the feeling that Palencia got when the team paraded around the University.
“You get goose bumps from it, really there is no way to describe it, there’s no way for me to put it in words,” Palencia explained. “The people go crazy when you sign a shirt, or when you wave to them.”
Through out the good and the bad the Pumas faithful have always been behind the team which led Palencia to mention that they are the best fans in all of Mexico.
“We have to give thanks to all the fans, and the only way to do that is by winning a championship. We did that and with everyday that passes it is just reaffirmed that we do have the best fans in Mexico,” said Palencia.
