Ordiales: America Won't Pursue D'Alessandro

Club America executive Jaime Ordiales said his club would not pursue Argentine midfielder Andres D'Alessandro, who reportedly comes with a lofty transfer fee.

Club America officials shot down a rumored move for Argentine midfield Andres D'Alessandro.

America's sporting director Jaime Ordiales said while his team make moves this offseason, a bid for D'Alessandro would not be one of them.

"I have a trip to South America planned this weekend to observe some possible reinforcements but D'Alessandro is not one of them," Ordiales said.

The main sticking point is money. D'Alessandro would reportedly cost upwards of $10 million USD. Ordiales also said the team would stick with players who did not yield much, such as Enrique Vera and Robert De Pinho.

"We're seeing if it is better to reinforce the defense first or another position," Ordiales said. "For now, we're standing pat."

America finished eighth overall in the Mexican league standings but lost out on goal differential to Indios. Coupled with manager Jesus "Chucho" Ramirez, who joined early in the season, the team will apparently begin the Apertura 2009 season the way the club finished the Clausura '09 campaign as America officials said consistency was important.

"With the exception of a few reinforcements, we are going to maintain the base of players who were brought in under contract last year," Ordiales said. "I believe that's the best thing we can do."
