Series Finale Was No Walkover For Pachuca

Pachuca manager Enrique Meza insisted Jaguares were tougher than the 2-0 Sunday win and 5-1 aggregate victory indicated.

During the regular season, Pachuca were the top team for a reason. Los Tuzos were not only focused for most of their games this season but took care of opponents when they had to.

Such was the case Sunday when Pachuca needed to close out Jaguares. Ahead 3-1 in the aggregate score, Pachuca were not about to relax.

"Even though we had a two-goal advantage, they were not eliminated, and I believe Jaguares played better here than they did at their house," Pachuca manager Enrique Meza said.

Pachuca won the match 2-0 and advanced to the semifinals, where they will meet Indios. Despite the seemingly relative ease of Sunday's win and the quarterfinal series in general, Pachuca will be ready for Indios. A tough match helped the club prepare.

"The game was not easy," Meza said. "We ran risks and in no moment did we feel like it was an easy match."

Pachuca led the league in goals with 42, lost just three times and had a plus-19 goal-differential. Just where this team ranks among the other great Pachuca teams, though, is up for debate.

"I am not sure if this is the best Pachuca team that has participated in the Liguilla," Pachuca star Christain "Chaco" Gimenez said. "But What I do know is the players have the desire to come out ahead."

This team is different, though, in that it has been around together a longer period of time.

"I've been lucky enough to have been on another Pachuca team that I enjoyed a lot, the one that won Sudamericana (in 2006)," Gimenez said, "but this group has maintained its foundation and is in the mix of things."
