Pachuca Cruise To Semifinals With 2-0 Win Over Jaguares
Unlike second-seeded Toluca, who were upset by Indios, co-favorites Pachuca easily knocked off Jaguares and advanced to the semifinals, where they will meet Indios.
However, at the end of the game Pachuca continued to show their dominance as they further slotted in two goals in the return leg for a final aggregate score of 5-1.
The first chance came to Pachuca when Marco Ivan Perez headed very close to the post, but he was ultimately called offsides in the seventh minute.
It took awhile to pick up pace, and in the 35th minute Blas Perez of Pachuca came close with a quick shot that went to the left of the post.
Jaguares finally got their chance in the 37th with Alan Miguel Zamorra came in with a shot that Tuzos 'keeper Miguel Calero barely got his hands on. In the tussle, the ball rolled around the area giving Pachuca clearance trouble. Oribe Peralta pounced on the situation for Jaguares, but Javier Muñoz Mustafa cleared in the end.
Finally to the dismay of Jaguares, Pachuca managed to score in the 45th minute when Gabriel Caballero sent in a header while unmarked to make the score 1-0.
Coming back for the second half Pachuca quickly went in to mark their advantage. In the 50th minute they doubled their advantage in the second leg with a goal by Christian Gimenez. Pachuca earned a free kick, and Gimenez sent in a powerful shot, leaving Jaguares ‘keeper Edgar Hernandez with nothing to do except look on.
In the 63rd minute Jaguares had another clear shot as Neri Cardoza gave Adolfo ‘Bofo’ Bautista a pass leaving him with a chance for goal. Running in between two defenders, “Bofo’s’ shot was stopped by Calero.
Jaguares had clear opportunities in the game, but they failed to take full advantage of them. Now, Pachuca have advanced to the semifinals and will face Indios who knocked out staunch competitors Toluca with a 1-0 aggregate score.
