Puebla left little up to suspense on Wednesday in their series against Monterrey. Los Camoteros scored twice in the first five minutes and traded goals with los Rayados in the second half and walked away with a 3-1 win over Monterrey.

The semifinals are seemingly within reach for la Franja, who need only lose by one goal, draw or win to get past the quarterfinal round. Puebla had the most points away from home during the Clausura 2009 regular season, complicating matters for Monterrey.

Also a possible death trap for los Rayados is the potential loss of leading scorer Humberto "Chupete" Suazo, who scored Monterrey's only goal on Wednesday. Suazo left the game limping, midway through the second half.

Puebla struck quickly with the help of Monterrey. Daniel Osorno sent a free kick into the penalty area towards Sergio Perez, but the ball went off Monterrey's Gerardo Galindo and into the net, just out of the reach of goalkeeper Christian Martinez.

Puebla took care of the second goal on their own. Ramon Nunez swung in a  corner kick towards goal and Alejandro Acosta powered a header past Orozco for the eventual match-winner.

Monterrey hung in and Suazo sliced into Puebla's lead with a magnificent strike. Suazo fired a left-footed shot from 22 yards out that fooled Puebla 'keeper Jorge Villalpando, who barely moved as the ball went past.

But Perez answered with is own shot from distance, as "Cherokee" Perez unleashed a vicious shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net.

Monterrey's Diego Ordaz was sent off in the 78th minute after he picked up his second yellow card and los Rayados fought off a furious Puebla charge to keep from heading home with more than a two-goal deficit to make up.
