FMF Officials "Unsatisfied" With Lack Of Road Results
FMF executives said a thorough evaluation will be made regarding manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and his job permanence.
After Mexico's 3-1 loss to Honduras in San Pedro Sula, Mexican Football Federation Director of National Teams Nestor de la Torre and FMF President Justin Compean came out of the locker room with a stone-faced Eriksson. The Swede’s progress is going to be evaluated to see where his future may stand with the national team.
“We haven’t been able to take points as visitors which leaves us unsatisfied, and we’re just going off points earned at home," De La Torre said. "Any error at home would leave us at a disadvantage. I think that after this game there will be a thorough analysis of the situation that we’re going through. What we think of the future, we’ll let you know. It’ll be a deep analysis. We have an objective in mind and we have to get points. We’ve only gained points at home and we have to get some away because any error at home will leave us out. So we will be making a deep analysis of this."
However, not all the blame is put on Sven, and de la Torre has shifted some to the players.
“In the end it’s a team, it’s teamwork," De La Torre. "The players also have their responsibility, the technical staff has their responsibility, the manager too, it’s still to determine.”
Meanwhile, Eriksson said that on his part he’s not considering stepping down and sees Mexico getting past the stage.
“If (leaving) depends on me, no," Eriksson said. "Maybe at this time it doesn’t depend on me, but I feel that Mexico will play at the World Cup.”
