Honduras 3, Mexico 1: Mexico Player Ratings

Mexico had a night to forget in Honduras; the ratings show just how bad things went for El Tricolor.

Francisco Ochoa - Mexico (Mexsport)
Mexico are still unable to win away from home when it matters. They lost key players from the last game against Costa Rica, the starting line up was changed due to this but still could not find the right formula to win away from home.

This is the third straight time that Honduras has beaten Mexico in Central America. Carlos Pavon also kept his streak going as he scored against Mexico again. Carlos Salcido will be absent for the next game, this time due to ared card. And Sven-Goran Eriksson’s job is once again in jeopardy.

The Mexican team did not have the same flare that we saw in the Azteca. They were only able to score once on a penalty that never existed. The only positive note for Mexico is that Bolivia beat Argentina earlier on Wednesday and Mexico beat Bolivia; maybe they can carry that positive note over to their next game.

Now, the player ratings.

Starting XI:

Goalkeeper

Guillermo Ochoa 5
- Ochoa saw the ball pass by him three separate times. The goalkeeper was barely tested but when he was, Honduras scored. He had one save in the dying moments of the game on a one on one against Carlos Pavon, but it didn’t matter then.

Defenders

Jonny Magallon 5.5
- Magallon did not have one of his greatest games. He was not in his spot when the first goal was scored which forced Leobardo Lopez to come over and then get beat by Carlos Costly. Magallon however, did stop a vital play from Honduras that would have seen them win by a bigger margin.

Leobardo Lopez 4- Lopez was outmuscled by Carlos Costly which resulted in the first goal for Honduras. He left the game after the 27th minute as he was unable to walk due to injury.

Carlos Salcido 6 - Salcido was the most solid defender during the first half. He started the second half the same and was not getting beat on one v. one plays. He was beat, though in Honduras third goal. He was then beat again by Carlos Pavon. Salcido didn’t let him go through he brought him down and earned a red in his game back for El Tri.

Fausto Pinto 4.5 - Pinto was having trouble with Julio Cesar “Rambo” De Leon. “Rambo” blew right past Pinto often as he was not able to keep up with the speedy De Leon. A lot of the plays for Honduras were developing down the left flank where Pinto and Guardado were.

Midfielders

Leandro Augusto 6.5
- Augusto was pretty active wining on most plays. Leandro though needed more precision in his passing for this game. He had the vision but the passing was not there.

Luis Ernesto Perez 5.5
- “Lucho” had the first dangerous play. His shot went above the crossbar when he shot from a set play. He was not as active as everyone else in the midfield. He was subbed in the 46th minute for Vicente Matias Vuoso.

Pavel Pardo 6
- Pardo did a great job getting up and down the field especially when he had to comeback and defend. The Mexican captain was forced to stay back as the Mexican defense was having problems with Honduras attack.

Andres Guardado 6 - Guardado played all 90 minutes for the first time from coming back from injury, it was not his best game for El tri. He was kept pretty quiet in the first half. He opened up more in the second half when Eriksson went with a 4-3-3. He did not link up well with Vela as expected and was kept pretty much in check by the Honduras defense.

Forwards

Omar Bravo 4.5
- Bravo was quiet through out the game. He did not generate anything up top and had no scoring opportunities. Bravo was replaced by Nery Castillo in the 70th minute.

Carlos Vela 7 - Vela was arguably the only man generating anything up top. He had a couple good individual plays but seemed to keep the ball for a second too long. He had a great volley at the top of the box but could not finish, maybe because of the new boots. He did draw the penalty that gave Mexico their only goal of the night.

Substitutes

Aaron Galindo 5
- Galindo came in for Leobardo Lopez but the backline for Mexico did not change. Galindo lost Pavon in the second goal and let him run up his streak.

Vicente Matias Vuoso 6
- Vuoso injected life into the Mexican offense for the beginning of the first half. He was making plays up top but then started to fade as the game carried on. Vuoso should have started the game.

Nery Castillo 6 - Castillo came in the game with a lot of energy. He scored from the penalty spot after Vela fooled the referee into calling it. Castillo though soon made an enemy in Wilson Palacios and committed fouls against him which cost them vital minutes if they wanted to make a comeback.
