Eriksson Praises Tricolor For Dominant Performance

Omar Bravo and Pavel Pardo scored goals on either side of halftime as Sven-Goran Eriksson's starting lineup functioned well in a 2-0 win over Costa Rica; Eriksson praised his side afterward.
Sven Goran Eriksson’s first win in the CONCACAF Hexagonal has left him with joy. If Mexico had lost against Costa Rica, the Swede could have been out of a job. Fortunately for him, Mexico was able to beat Costa Rica, 2-0, thanks to goals by Omar Bravo and Pavel Pardo.

“As the Mexicans say, ‘de poca madre ([expletive] awesome),” Eriksson said after the win.

Eriksson had been under fire for poor results and acknowledged before the game that his job was on the line in the match.

"Mexico was the boss on the field, it was important to win and I don't mean for myself but for Mexico as a country. The first game against the US had been lost, this was the second game, at home, it was great to win.”

Eriksson was pleased with his starting 11 and mentioned that Ochoa once again would most likely get the nod to start against Honduras on Wednesday for the third game in the Hexagonal. He also said the move to start Ochoa did not cause friction between Ochoa and his predecessor, Oswaldo Sanchez.

“Ochoa has done well. Oswaldo is a great professional, I told him that this time I wanted to see Memo in goal. He was well, in the locker room he was happy and supporting everything. It’s likely that Ochoa will continue after the game where he played well. I don’t see any reason to change him.”
