Guadalajara's De La Torre Set To Take Over FMF Post

Chivas Vice President Nestor De La Torre is reportedly set to take over the spot left vacant in the federation when Guillermo Canto resigned.

Club Deportivo Guadalajara Vice President Nestor De La Torre is reportedly on his way to Mexico City to take over a spot with the national team.

De La Torre is set to become the Mexican Football Federation's director of national teams, a post last held by Guillermo Cantu. The position became vacant when Cantu resigned following the Under-20 national team's failure to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this month.

De La Torre is expected to continue working with Chivas for the immediate future but club owner Jorge Vergara will likely need to find a new right-hand man soon enough.

On Thursday, De La Torre was around the club and talked to team personnel about his new post and expressed confidence the ongoing work with Guadalajara was productive.

"I've spoken to the players about it," De La Torre said. "The confidence we have in and the responsibility each person has is immense. That's how we've been managing this. There are no obligations, only responsibilities."

De La Torre is the only remaining front-office member to have survived the purge from when Vergara took over. In 2002, Vergara bought the club and systematically removed management, save for De La Torre.

As vice president, De La Torre survived while his brother, Jose Manuel, did not. The latter was club manager in 2006 and led Chivas to a championship but was sacked and later moved on to Toluca, where he won another league title.
