San Luis Desperately Need Win Over Universitario In Libertadores

A loss won't destroy San Luis' Libertadores hopes but it would take a miracle to overcome a defeat.

The hour of truth for Mexican side San Luis and their Copa Libertadores effort will be on Wednesday when los Gladiadores host Universitario of Peru.

San Luis must win to have hopes of advancing past the first round. A loss won't eliminate San Luis but would all but force the club into needing a miracle to reach the knockout round.

Making the task more difficult will be the absence of defender Alfredo Gonzalez Tahuilan, who was sent off in San Luis' last Libertadores match.

Still, San Luis will have Israel "Jagger" Martinez and Braulio Luna available. The pair, along with Tressor Moreno, form a dangerous part of the team's attack. Forward Hugo Lojero offers the club a respectable young player.

San Luis have not yet won a game in Libertadores. Against this same Universitario squad a week ago, San Luis earned a 0-0 draw and gained their first-ever point in the tournament.

That game was played in Peru. With what amounts to the return leg of the series, Universitario head to Mexico knowing that a loss to San Luis would put the two clubs even on four points while a victory would all but sink the Mexican side.
