FMF exec Guillermo Cantu might be sacked as early as Friday for the Mexican Under-20 national team's poor performance in its failed attempt to qualify for the Under-20 World Cup.

Mexico's Under-20 national team failed to qualify for the Under-20 World Cup this week as two losses and a draw were not nearly good enough to send the young Tri on to Egypt.

Federation executive Guillermo Cantu could pay for the disaster with his job.

Cantu, the Mexican Football Federation's Director of National Teams, may be sacked as early as Friday. The FMF have called for a press conference for Friday and speculation has arisen over Cantu's permanence on the job.

Blame has not been in short supply following the Under-20's failures. FMF officials initially blamed Jesus "Chucho" Ramirez for abandoning the national team and moving onto Club America, but Ramirez said he left the team in good hands. Ramirez's successor Juan Carlos Chavez said Thursday he was the lone person to blame for the team's failures.

Dispatching of Cantu could save FMF President Justino Compean and Secretery General Decio de Maria from further criticism.

Should Cantu depart, reports have arisen that Chivas Vice President Nestor De la Torre or Pachuca President Jesus Martinez might take over for Cantu.
