Mexico beat Bolivia 5-1 on Wednesday, for many a great result by Mexico and a great game to prepare towards the game against Costa Rica.

For a select others it was a chance that may only come once in a lifetime - the chance to play for your country.

Jose Maria “El Chema” Cardenas made his debut for Mexico against Bolivia. Not only did he debut, but he contributed to the five-goal thrashing unleashed by El Tri by scoring the fifth and final goal right after coming in as a sub.

“Really it is a debut that is only dreamt about, I thank the people for giving me a chance and I thank God for letting me score that goal”, said Cardenas.

With no butterflies in his stomach, he riffed a shot past Bolivian keeper Carlos Arias. He also had a great pass to Israel Martinez but Martinez was unable to finish.

Cardenas pointed out that besides all the goals that were scored Mexico played a really good game

“I though that today the team had a really good flow. There was a unity that was missing and that we seemed to find today which I thought we really needed,” he said.

El Chema also reacted to the game as not only a good preparation game, but also as a good confidence-booster entering the game against Costa Rica.

“We needed the confidence heading into the game against Costa Rica. I’m very happy with my debut, and with the squad. I’m really very grateful”, said Cardenas.
