With An Eye On Clasico, Chivas Welcome Caracas

Chivas face city rivals Atlas in the Clasico Tapatio on Sunday but must first try and recapture the top spot in their Copa Libertadores group when they host Caracas on Wednesday.

Chivas will play their 10th game of the year against Atlas on Sunday but first they must focus on Copa Libertadores. After losing to Caracas FC of Venezuela on Wednesday by 2-0, the team has found ways to work on their game.

Currently Caracas sit atop the group, but if Chivas win Wednesday's night there would be a shift in positions. A win would give Chivas the top spot and some peace of mind.

“The game this Wednesday is very important because it is a rival that is above us in the group and with a victory we could be above them and still have a home game left in the Copa Libertadores,” said Ramon Morales.

During the game in Venezuela, Caracas played a defensive front using counterattacks to cause the damage.

“I think Caracas will play the same way they did a week ago, maybe a bit more defensive in the back and they’re going to guard themselves. I also think they’re going to take advantage of set plays. They could do all that, but they could also come this Wednesday and play as a different Caracas than what we’ve seen,” continued Morales.

Meanwhile some players like Jonny Magallon look ahead to the big game on Sunday, but also keep focus on the upcoming game.

“I love it when El Clasico is talked about because you start to live it now. Although we respect Caracas, no doubt, but the Clasico is lived before (the game)," Magallon said. “By the results and the facts I think they’re (Atlas) favorites to take El Clasico, but we’re working during the week to play a good game Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores against Caracas, and then we’re thinking of them after.”
