Bravo, Ochoa Highlight Mexico Roster

Mexico coach Sven-Goran Eriksson called on Omar Bravo for El Tricolor's match on Wednesday against Bolivia in Colorado.

Omar Bravo returned to Mexico on Tuesday and before he could play one match with his new club, he was called up to the Mexican natioanl team.

Bravo was one of 22 players Sven-Goran Eriksson called up to El Tri for Wednesday's game against Bolivia in Colorado.

Because the match is not on an international fixture date, Eriksson did not call on any foreign-based players. Neither did Eriksson call on any players from Guadalajara, who host Caracas in a Copa Libertadores match the same night.

America are the most represented club with five players on the roster. Among the americanistas are Guillermo Ochoa, who will battle with Jesús Corona for the start, as well as Pável Pardo.

Eriksson also called on four players from Cruz Azul, highlighted by Gerardo Torrado who returned after a suspension cost him the chance to play in the first World Cup qualifier, and three players from Pachuca.

Bravo will fight for time with several standout league forwards, including former teammate Sergio Santana of Toluca and Matias Vuoso, who scored twice in Santos' 5-2 win over Montreal in a CONCACAF Champions League match on Thursday.

Perhaps the most glaring absence is goalkeeper Oswaldo Sánchez. However, Sanchez was injured against Montreal and left the match midway through the first half. The roster did not feature many surprises, as only Sanchez and Guadalajara players Aarón Galindo, Carlos Ochoa and Alberto Medina were the only ones who were initially called up for the Feb. 11 qualifier against Mexico who do not comprise this list.


Mexico will play Bolivia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. The match will be Mexico's last game before a March 28 World Cup qualifying match against Costa Rica in Estadio Azteca.
