Fully-Loaded Santos Aware Of Dire Situation
Santos will try and turn around their 2-0 deficit at home on Thursday.
Santos coach Daniel Guzman said the team he sends out against Montreal will look a lot like the one that played against Necaxa in league play on Sunday.
"I am going to go with the 11 players who participated against Necaxa with the exception of Darwin (Quintero), whom I will rest in favor of Matias Vuoso," Guzman said.
The likely starting lineup thus will feature: Oswaldo Sanchez in goal; Jorge Barrera, Rafael Figueroa, Juan Pablo Santiago and Osmar Mares along the back; Juan Pablo Rodriguez, Walter Jimenez, Fernando Arce and Daniel Luduena in the middle with Vuoso and Christian Benitez up top.
"I'm going to start with that group because I think it will be a good game and it will also help us prepare for our game against Cruz Azul on Sunday," Guzman said.
Montreal beat Santos 2-0 in the first leg a week ago in Canada. Holding their slim advantage, Montreal will enter Estadio Corona with a shot of reaching the semifinal stage. Should Montreal score one goal, Santos would be obligated to score four goals - the first tie-breaker is away goals.
It's not something his players are not aware of, Guzman said.
"They know the circumstances," Guzman said. "We have to score the first goal and must be disciplined defensively. It is very clear to them what they must do. What I am most interested in is to play well defensively because if we defend well, we will have plenty of attack going forward."
