Mexicans Abroad: Repatriation Drama
A return to the Mexican league is pending a signature between Tigres, Depor and Omar Bravo. Also, De Nigris continues in good form in Turkey which may put him on El Tri coach Sven-Göran Eriksson’s radar.
In a week filled with precipitated confirmations by various outlets announcing the return of Omar Bravo to Mexican football, late news from Galicia further added suspense to the latest repatriation saga.
As published on the Deportivo La Coruña website on Sunday night, both Tigres and the Galician club have reached a verbal agreement for the loan of the striker until the 30th of June.
However, Omar Bravo’s agent stalled the negotiations and indicated that the 28-year-old will not sign any contract until the details regarding his wages are resolved.
It is anticipated that the deal will be signed and finalized on Monday. Some specifics of the loan operation include a buyout option and participation in the upcoming edition of the Trofeo Teresa Herrera for the Mexican club. In turn, Depor will pocket 500,000 dollars from the deal.
Omar Bravo last participated with Depor in the midweek UEFA cup defeat against Aalborg, in which he scored a goal on his first touch that was unjustly annulled and displayed a spirited effort that won the praise of the Riazor faithful.
While this is not a definitive end to Bravo’s European adventure, it is a dangerous step back for his future aspirations abroad.
On the field, Giovani dos Santos stole the show for the legionarios by scoring an wonder goal midweek in the second leg UEFA cup match against Shakhtar, for his first goal in the Spurs uniform.
In Turkey, Antonio “El Tano” De Nigris’ strike in the 72nd minute gave Ankaragucu a much needed victory to move them away from the drop zone in the Süper Lig.
In the lower divisions of Spain, Juan Angel Seguro scored a golazo for Segunda “B” leading Real Unión. While in the third division, 25-year-old Martín Pérez Vásquez continues to find the back of the net for CD Ourense.
According to the website of Hungarian second division side FC Tatabánya, Juan “Kichi” Pérez has returned for the 2009 campaign after an unsuccessful trial with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. The team also reported that Jesus Flores will not return to the club for the start of the new season.
Also, defender Jaime Durán was picked up by struggling Necaxa after failing to emigrate to Greek football.
