Tigres Land Bravo On Loan

Mexican international Omar Bravo will return home after Deportivo and Tigres agree on a loan deal.

After weeks of haggling, Tigres UANL acquired Mexican international Omar Bravo on loan from Deportivo la Coruña.

Bravo, who played his final game of the season with Deportivo in a UEFA Cup match on Thursday, will join Tigres immediately.

The deal will join a struggling player with a struggling club, as Tigres have more coaches (two) than wins (one) during the current Clausura 2009 season.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Tigres officials said the money involved was significant.

"It is a loan with an option to buy," Tigres Vice President Héctor González Iñárritu said. "It is not an inexpensive loan but it is the best thing for all parties. It is only for nine games and, in case we can reach the Liguilla, a little more than that."

After spending his entire career with CD Guadalajara, Bravo left on a free transfer following the Clausura 2008 season. He landed alongside fellow Mexican international Andrés Guardado with Deportivo. However, unlike the former Atlas standout, Bravo never adjusted to Spanish football. He scored one goal in nine league games, of which he started two.

With Chivas, Bravo was a star in Mexico. He led the league in scoring in the Clausura 2007 season when he scored 11 goals and is the only Mexican-born player to lead the Mexican league in goals in the last 15 seasons.

Bravo has also played regularly for the Mexican national team since his debut in 2002. He has 14 goals for El Tri, including a pair of goals in the 2006 World Cup.

Bravo could make his debut Sunday when Tigres visit Pumas. The game will also mark the debut of coach Jose Pekerman, who replaced Manuel Lapuente earlier this week.
