Mexico Battles Elements in Columbus

Despite reported poor field conditions, Mexico players refuse to make an issue of the elements two days before the United States game.

Two days before its highly-anticipated match against the United States, Mexico has already faced a storm of poor conditions while training for the match in Ohio.

Temperatures were not unreasonably cold - temperatures topped out at 48 degrees Fahrenheit Sunday - but the training field Mexico used the last two days was not exactly in pristine conditions.

"The field is not in the greatest shape," Mexico goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez told Milenio. "But instead of complaining about it, we're just going to go about our business."

The field featured more dirt than grass, mounds of snow on the edges and was not level, according to reports. Still, Mexico players refused to make an issue of it.

"We've heard that the weather is too cold, and all about the wind and the snow and the field. Truth is, we're excited," Mexico forward Omar Bravo said. "I'm fine. My teammates are fine so there is no problem."

Sunday's training session featured the entire Mexican squad save for Carlos Salcido and Guillermo Franco, albeit training on a field that was not quite as pristine as those at the federation's Centro de Alto Rendimiento in Mexico City. Nevertheless, Mexico players said they were able to focus on the task at hand and ignore whatever sorts of obstacles stand in their way.

"It's not the best but everyone is enthusiastic," Antonio Naelson "Zinha" said. "We don't really look at the training field. We have a mentality that we need to overcome all of these sorts of possible distractions."
