Espanyol Deal For Torrado Falls Through
Espanyol thought they had made their first winter signing in midfielder Gerardo Torrado, but the deal has fallen through today due to the reluctance of Cruz Azul to sell.
The Catalan side started negotiations with Cruz Azul for midfielder Gerardo Torrado days ago, but today, it has collapsed, despite the willingness of the Mexican to make a deal.
AS reports that the two clubs have found it impossible to come to an agreement for the player, and the Spanish side will now have to look elsewhere for a winter signing.
Espanyol coach, Mané, did not hide anything in his words today either, saying, "The position of Cruz Azul has prevented a deal that in the last few days seemed practically done."
The fact that the deal looked nearly done is likely to frustrate the Catalans, and with the clock ticking, they will not be pleased with the outcome.
However, before Espanyol sign anyone they will need to get rid of some players, as they currently have 25 in their squad.
David García, Nené, Carlos Kameni and Grégory Beránger have all been rumoured with moves away from the club, and with Espanyol certainly looking to buy, they will need to sell too.
Next up for them in La Liga is a tricky test against Almería, who won their first game of the New Year against Real Betis.
