El Tri: Vergara Pleased With Eriksson
Outspoken Chivas del Guadalajara President, Jorge Vergara, finally came out and declared that México did not commit a mistake in hiring the Swedish manager.
Vergara kept his silence after the qualifying match against Honduras and failed to make a comment on the way México advanced to the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualification.
However, the official qualified as positive the work done by the Swede and he expects more improvement during the Hexagonal.
"I am very happy, what happened is that we qualified, the objective was achieved," Vergara declared.
"We evaluated the report presented by Sven, it is clear that we have to improve on some aspects, like the time they have with the players because there is not enough due to different reasons, but I am convinced that the FMF and the team owners have done a good analysis and he continues being the best option," he explained.
The businessman manifested that at no moment was the possibility of dismissing Eriksson contemplated.
"To end the process was never considered, we did our homework well, analyzed his report and we support Sven, it is the correct decision," he stated.
"I recognize that there was some suffering but that is also part of football."
Finally, Vergara rejected that the work of Eriksson's coaching staff has left much to be desired and rather emphasized their ability to plan ahead.
"The work of (Francisco) Paco Ramírez has been important because he has helped him get to know the players," he added. "One of the qualities of this team is that they don't think short term, but medium and long, so they have a clear image of what will come after the Hexagonal."
"So there is no problem and I am sure that we will overcome the famous fifth game."
Jorge Vergara exerts a lot of influence in Mexican football, having played an instrument role in the signing of Hugo Sánchez and Sven-Göran Eriksson as national team managers over the past two years.
In the first case, Vergara was one of the first to overturn his support and call for the dismissal of Sánchez, after he failed to qualify the México U-23 team to the Beijing Olympics.
