Mexicans Abroad: Milestones In Spain
Rafa Márquez played his 200th match with Barça in the "Super Clásico" victory against Real Madrid, and ‘El Vasco’ earned a centenary of victories in La Liga.
In Spain, this was a milestone weekend for two of Mexico’s most notable football figures, who earned their individual accolades at a cost to Real Madrid. El Tri captain Rafa Márquez, played his 200th game with Barcelona in the thrilling "Super Clásico" victory against los Merengues.
Also, manager Javier ‘El Vasco’ Aguirre earned the centenary mark of victories in Spain when Atléti defeated Real Betis and jumped ahead their city rivals in classification. Aguirre has been coaching without interruption in La Liga since he started in the 02/03 season with Osasuna.
Bad news out of the Netherlands, where the undisputed starting position and good form of 20-year old AZ defender, Héctor Moreno, was dealt an unfortunate setback when he suffered a foot fracture that will sideline him for 2 to 3 months.
Elsewhere, PSV’s Carlos Salcido, Eintracht’s Aarón Galindo, and Antonio De Nigris of Ankaraspor have all been linked with a move back to México, particularly with Chivas del Guadalajara.
And in El Salvador, Chalatenango with the Mexicans José Luis Osorio and Manuel Luna, advanced to the final for the first time after they eliminated fellow paisano Arturo Albarrán and Águila.
