El Tri: Eriksson's Euro Tour
Amidst rumors of a job offer in the Premiership, El Tri coach Sven-Göran Eriksson is taking advantage of his holiday to meet with Mexican players in Europe.
Eriksson's first stop was England, where he arrived surrounded by claims in the British tabloids that he is a leading contender for the managerial position at Sunderland.
Once on British soil, he visited youngsters Carlos Vela of Arsenal and Giovani Dos Santos of Tottenham.
Both players confirmed the meeting, but while Vela did not reveal details of their talk, Dos Santos was more open on their discussion.
"Nothing more than to check on my fitness, and that we have to prepare both physically and mentally for the Hexagonal which begins with a difficult match, but that he is confident" Dos Santos said.
"(Eriksson) came to provide us support and more than anything to be in contact with the people in Europe," he added.
Likewise, the Swede took a trip to Holland where he met-up with PSV defenders Carlos Salcido and Francisco Javier 'Maza' Rodríguez.
To further delve into Eriksson's itinerary, on Tuesday morning he visited Dépor duo Andrés Guardado and Omar Bravo in La Coruña.
Eriksson looked around the sports facilities of the Galician side and later held a meeting with Deportivo manager Miguel Ángel Lotina, to discuss the current situation of his players.
Later that night, Eriksson assisted the Camp Nou to witness the Barcelona Champions League defeat against Shakhtar.
Although defender Rafael Márquez saw no action in the contest, the manager held a reunion with the México captain to discuss the future of El Tri on the path to South Africa 2010.
The Swede also had time to discuss the actuality of international football with Barça manager Josep Guardiola.
It is anticipated that in the following days he will visit oft-forgotten striker Guillermo Franco in Villareal, to discuss the issue of his absence from the previous call-ups.
However, there is no news if on his trip to Spain he will chat with former México coach and current Atlético Madrid manager, Javier Aguirre, to receive any advice.
After coming under-fire for the lackluster display by México in qualification, Eriksson has demonstrated an intention to form a better team ahead of the Hexagonal final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.
The Hexagonal starts next February, with a difficult match for El Tri against the United States.
