In the most recent meeting between the coaching staff of El Tri, the National Teams Committee, and the two main Mexican television networks, coach Sven-Göran Eriksson was ratified at the helm of the México national team for 2009.

At the end of the nine-hour long assembly, Secretary General of the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), Decio De María, informed that there was a general feeling of disapproval from club presidents regarding the way El Tri qualified to the Hexagonal, and they expect to see significant improvement in the final round of qualification.

"(They are) worried, upset by the way we qualified but also conscious that it's a process and now the objectives are to qualify and to do in a way that leaves everyone satisfied," De María explained.

Despite the dissatisfaction of the owners, De María completely rejected that Sven-Göran Eriksson would be dismissed from his post and that in a few weeks there will be another meeting to discuss his work ahead of El Tri.

"Today he didn't come to report to no one, he came to sit down and work with all of us responsible for our football," he said

The FMF official indicated that the national team will play a maximum of 22 matches in 2009, divided between official matches of the Hexagonal, Gold Cup and friendlies.

El Tri will play a total of five friendly encounters in the United States and one match in Europe, all to be confirmed.  At the moment the only confirmed match is against Sweden on the 29 of January, in Oakland, California.

"We will play against Sweden because they are a rival with a similar tactical formation to the United States, let's remember that we open the Hexagonal against the United States," he added.

Finally, De María mentioned that the next Assembly of Club Owners will take place in early 2009 and that the presence of the television networks, TV Azteca and Televisa, was simply to arrange the broadcast calendar for the following year.
